Statement of the Organizing Committee of the Luxembourg Forum on the occasion of passing of Dr. Henry Kissinger

November 30, 2023

We were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Dr. Kissinger with whom we were privileged to interact for a long time on matters of world security and arms control.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Kissinger played a vital role in diplomatic endeavors shaping global peace based on the realistic balance of powers and interests. His efforts in times of many serious world crises helped to prevent war and promote diplomatic settlements. His activities in promoting cooperative relations between the USSR/Russia and the West were most effective.

Dr. Kissinger had dedicated his professional life to bringing attention of the world leaders and international community to the imminent dangers of nuclear war, arms race and proliferation. He had made a profound practical contribution to a number of historic international treaties and agreements, which ended the Cold War and laid the foundation for half a century of consistent and beneficial nuclear arms control and disarmament.

In his fundamental works – books and articles – he played a great role in outlining the venues to a stable security and safer world free of nuclear weapons.

We were honored to have Dr. Kissinger as a member of the Supervisory Board of the International Luxembourg Forum on Preventing Nuclear Catastrophe.

We express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Kissinger.
