Roland Timerbayev graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1949 and devoted more than 40 years of his life to diplomatic service in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR and the Russian Federation. In 1992, he resigned from the post of permanent representative of the USSR and Russia under the international organizations in Vienna.
In 1974-1978, Timerbayev participated in the creation of the Nuclear Suppliers' Group. In 1995-1998, he was president of the PIR-Center and since 1999 has been the Council's chairman.
